3GP is an acronym for 3RD Generation Partnership Project. It is a multimedia file type defined by 3GPP for 3G UMTS (Universal Mobile Telecommunications System) services. Basically a multimedia file type that was designed for 3g enabled cellular phones. It is a lighter version of the MP4 files which are usually played on desktops of laptops. Designed to facilitate easier and faster streaming of videos on limited bandwidth. These files can be played on some 2g and 4 g phones. This capability is usually built in into the operating system of the phone. 3gp players are available on Mac market place, Google Play Store for Android & Apple App Store. These files can be played on desktops and laptops too but the quality of video and sound is somewhat degraded as compared to the bulky MP4 Files.
